Justin Bieber Poster & Cover to Print !!! Check This Out

Born Justin Drew Bieber, of Ontario, Canada, Bieber has become the hottest new pop/ R&B singer. Bieber first got his big break in 2008 when one of his YouTube videos was discovered by his soon-to-be manager Scooter Braun. It is said that both Usher and Justin Timberlake heard Bieber's music and wanted to sign him to their contracts. Bieber chose to go with Usher, and that is how he came to be under the Raymond Braun Media Group label.

Going back to the beginning of Justin Bieber, it is easy to see where his singing roots came from. Justin Bieber was born March 1, 1994 in London, Ontario and was then raised in Stratford, Ontario. Bieber was raised by a single mother that was only eighteen years old. She worked at several low-paying jobs, but still managed to keep her son satisfied. Bieber has remained in contact with his father, but is not that close to him.
During childhood, Bieber decided to start teaching himself how to play many instruments. These instruments included the piano, guitar, drums, and trumpet. While perfecting these instruments, Bieber's mother posted many videos of her son's performances online. This is how his video got leaked to Usher in the first place. This video was of Bieber singing Ne-Yo's song "So Sick" in a competition that he placed only second in.

Catching up a bit...

This is the new poster design for the Exhibition that will be in my gallery. I hope you will have time to come and see the exceptional works by Harry Sandler of New York, and Barbara Ventura of Miami...it promises to be a fabulous show!

I have been so busy there has been almost no time for posting...I have been designing cards and posters and ads for shows and magazines for the new location for the gallery. I finally have a little studio area set up right behind the entry, and hope to finish a very important piece for an up-coming show that my work will be in. More about this later...

I love being surrounded by works of artists I have always admired, and I am so inspired to get back to creating some work of my own...so little time...so many ideas...stay tuned!

A page...some paint...and a song

My Artisan page is now up on the Carmel Arts & Design Districts website! I really love my new location, just as much as I love my studio downtown at The Stutz! I am covered in paint, just the same as I am when at the stutz...this seems to happen at both places, I need to learn why that keeps happening... Today I am working on a set of dining room chairs and table for a fabulous client. I love the fabric we selected, and the metamorphosis is so much fun to watch...I will show them once they are finished...

'A lot of things have happened since the last time we spoke...some of them are funny, some of 'em ain't no joke... I trust you will forgive me if I lay it on the line...I always thought you were a friend of mine'.

Never throw something beautiful away...

'Current In Carmel' is one of the weekly publications for the area, and included are stories for all of the north side. I was out of town last week (more about this later:o), and I came home to learn that the gifted Artist, Designer and Entrepreneur, Vicky Early had written about one of my works. How exciting! I am working n a series of Ladies in the mirror, and so far there are three. The original Lady In The Mirror will soon reside in her new home in New York. Queen Of Hearts, shown above, is considering a move to Louisville and can be seen in my gallery along with Earth Beauty, third in the series. I love the title that was chosen for the feature, it has so many meanings...to me anyway. I also love that she thought enough of my work to write about it...Thanks Vicky!

Early owns Artichoke Designs, which can be found in the Carmel Arts & Design District at two locations; 240 West Main Street, and 10 South Rangeline Road. Did I mention that Vicky is very gifted? So much inspiration within, that she needed two stunning design shops to satisfy a yearning to create beautiful interiors for people like you and me. Earth Beauty

Great News

I have completed a new work in the Lady In The Mirror series. This is the first art that I have worked on in my atelier in the arts district. I spent most of the day at the Stutz yesterday, and today back in Carmel. Still getting used to the back and forth, but I love them both so this is the way it goes...I am very happy that things have settled enough for me to get some work done. Yay! More to come...

I am thrilled to announce that I now have the best of both worlds! A working Studio in the historic Stutz building in downtown Indianapolis, and a Fine Art Gallery in the Arts District in downtown Carmel.

The new location will enable me to show my hand painted works and wallcoverings, pique assiette pieces, paintings, and decorative painting. I have many plans for this location, including assisting the regional design trade in locating and bringing more original art to the distinctive homes they represent.

I will continue working on projects in my beautiful studio at the Stutz, including quite a few new plans there as well! I have to say that I need to pinch myself to make sure this is not just a dream!

Stylish Lettering Typography by Like Minded Studio

Like Minded Studio is a Sydney, Australia based design studio specializing in lettering typography and illustration. All of their work is so intricate and curvy and detailed, its hard to believe how much time and effort went in making such good pieces of work. Usually, I don't like to post too much commercial/product design, but what they did for Toohey's beer and Red Bull is kind of amazing. Definitely want to see more of the likes of these guys' lettering work around more often.

Modern Abstract Design by Gordon Walters

After seeing the aftermath of the earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand, I remembered my time traveling on the South island there and passing through that city. While I was there, I noticed some pretty interesting designs from the Polynesian Maori culture, a lot of them making use of the Koru, or unfurling spiral shaped silver fern. Gordon Walters is a New Zealand painter and graphic designer who combined European abstract art with Maori themes. The fern plant shape is pretty simple, but I like the way he plays with it in different sizes and patterns.

Bonus fact: The actor who played Jango Fett, Temuera Morrison, is Maori.

Thought these would make a good post after going through Oliver Tomas's amazing archive of classic graphics. Really liking the heavy shadings and consistent colorways throughout the set. It just seems like a super cool idea for matchbox labels, and even though I'm not a smoker, if these were sitting out on the table for free at a diner I would grab some and start smoking like its 322 million years ago.

While flipping through old Radiohead flyers in anticipation of the new album, I came across this one from Darren Grealish. We featured him just over a year ago, but he's been busy creating some killer pieces with distorted psych/glam touches since then. I'm feeling the neon drenched science fictiony poster from 1995 too, but in contrast to his recent work, it looks like an entirely different artist made it.

I can't get over how visually attractive Jason Permenter's Tenderloin Coffee Crawl poster is. It has just the right balance of subtle type work, bold graphics, and texture effects to create a nicely polished look that doesn't look too clean while at the same time not overdoing it. My eyes start from the top, go to the middle, and get drawn even more to the text box at the bottom that has some really great text placement Oh yeah, Jason use to be a Volcanologist.

Vintage is the new modern. Culture recycles itself, everything that we've come up with today is because of past work that someone else had to come up with. I was talking with Erik the other day about what "original content" really is and how important the idea is of an individual producing work from their bare hands with their own thoughts. But when it really comes down to it, we get ideas from other things we see and come up with our own interpretation of it with a twist. Thats why Flyer Goodness exists, to offer a broader visual perspective in a narrow blog scope to anyone looking for inspiration for their next project, design, or simply just for the love of it.

So at first the "Predators" poster caught my eye, and then I checked out the rest of Pop Chart Lab's posters, and then I spent the next half hour going through everything that was included on each poster. Even though they cram so much into one poster, its actually still pretty tidy and fun to read. Really love the topics that they choose--video game controllers, beer, fearsome predators, superheroes, its like being a kid all over again.

While Flickr-Surfing I saw came across these nicely done posters by Vespertin, who chooses to be a caped graphic design vigilante under a nickname, giving no information about himself, which is cool. Regardless, his work speaks for itself. Check out his textures and margin spacing, it really comes together nicely to create an overall polished look.

After another graphic design tutorial from my brother, the other half of Flyer Goodness (who happens to work at American Apparel), I learned how important equal spacing is in placing text and images on a canvas, and how it can really make or break a design's look. Vespertin here, does just that. Plus, he included Star Wars material in his work, which is automatic brownie points.

The Saul Bass influenced Tron and Lost posters are my personal favorites, where he does a great job in demonstrating his unique style in a new form.

40 Pieces of Vintage Tobacco Advertising

Thought these old tobacco ads were pretty interesting to sift through, with a lot of them having some nice traditional use of simple type with a catchy graphic. For some reason, theres just something about the inclusion of animals in human advertising that draws out a certain kind of appeal--maybe its just me. But overall a fine collection of prints promoting the cigarette industry, even though I'm not a smoker myself.

Star Wars Helmets as African Masks by Alex Griendling

I would never have even come close to the idea of the African mask versions of Star Wars helmets, but apparently Alex Griendling did. It just works so well, bringing out enough tribal primitiveness and Star Wars symbolism in a way that meshes them perfectly. If these ever go into production as kids toys, I would want them. Also included some more gig posters that take on the literal meaning of band names.

So I watched this Royksopp music video that a friend sent to me, which had a comment by some random guy referencing this Russian film from 1979 called "Stalker" which in turn led me to discover the director Andrei Tarkovsky, and his notable films -- as well as the amazing posters and designs that were made for them, including Solaris and The Sacrifice. Images come from this fabulous non-profit tribute site to Tarkovsky, nostalghia.com, which is worth visiting if you love the director or his films. Design credits are unknown for a lot of these, but some are really fantastic. The Solaris poster at the top is the Flyer Goodness favorite.

During the Industrial Revolution with the spur of travel and transportation, advertising was imperative in generating business and awareness of trains, air travel, and ships. What I like mainly about these is mainly the illustration work, though there are some good uses of kerning and type selection throughout the posters. There are even some nice Art Deco pieces in the bunch, with the first poster being my favorite for its tidiness, overall visual appeal, and border work.
