Beyond the Page" opens this Friday, May 1st at Gallery1988 San Francisco.
The participating artists include: Anne-Julie Aubry, Ben Strawn, Casey Weldon, Catherine Brooks, Chrystal Chan, Daniel Elson, Danielle Rizzolo, David Habben, Devin Crane, Drake Brodahl, Erica Gibson, Gene Guynn, Gideon Boomer, Irma Rivera, Isaac Pierro, Jason Limon, Jeannie Lynn Paske, Jeff McMillan, Jeni Yang, James (Jimbot) Demski, John Kennedy, Jonathan Bergeron, Kendra Binney, Lauren Moyer, Leanne Biank, Leontine Greenberg, Mayuko Fujino, Megan Kimber, Melissa Haslam, Mike Tudor, Misha, Nicoletta Ceccoli, Roland Tamayo, Ruel Pascual, Ryan Sanchez, Sean Clarity, Seiji Yonehara, Shannon Bonatakis, Tavo Quiros, and Tin.
We asked 40 artists to create original works of art inspired by the text of their favorite children's books. Participating artists took inspiration from stories such as Little Red Riding Hood by Charles Perrault, The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein and the Velevteen Rabbit by Margery Williams. Please join us this Friday, May 1st at the opening reception from 7-10PM at Gallery1988 San Francisco.
PLEASE NOTE: As a suggested entrace fee for this show, we are asking each gallery visitor to bring one new children's book, which will be donated to the San Francisco Unified School District. The gallery will also make an additional donation on behalf of the show.

We've been so busy these past few weeks that our new SF show crept up on me! Today was drop off day, so most of the work arrived yesterday and this morning, so it kinda looks like the gallery exploded. We asked each artist in the show to re-illustrate characters and/or scenes from the text of their favorite children's books and we got some AMAZING pieces. To get you in children's book mode, I've listed some of my favorites. When I made this list it made me so nostalgic and it amazing how strong the memories of these books are in my head. I'll be the first to admit that I have a horrible memory, but these I remember so well. It's pretty amazing how influential they were...
